Treasure Will Surface: Finding Victory in the Deep Waters of Life

There is something undeniably compelling about the idea of buried treasure. Most of us, at some point, have entertained the fantasy of digging through sand or diving beneath waves to uncover something priceless hidden just out of reach. But what if the most valuable treasure available to you is not buried in some distant place, but rather waiting just beneath the surface of the very trials you are walking through right now?

That is the invitation worth sitting with today.

You Are Going to Win

Before anything else, let this truth settle into your bones: you are going to win.

Not maybe. Not if everything goes perfectly. Not if the circumstances cooperate. If you refuse to stop, you are going to win.

Think about a road trip. You set out with a destination in mind, full of energy and expectation. Then, somewhere in the middle of the journey, a delay hits. Something you did not plan for, something entirely outside your control, pushes your arrival time back. The GPS recalculates. Your patience wears thin. But here is the thing, you are still in the car. And as long as you stay in the car and keep moving, you will arrive.

That is exactly the picture the Apostle Paul paints in 1 Corinthians 15, where he describes how mortality is swallowed up in victory when we embrace the life of the Spirit over the limitations of the flesh. He closes that passage with a charge that is both simple and staggering: be firm, immovable, and always excelling in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain.

Notice the word "knowing." Not hoping. Not suspecting. Knowing. When you truly know something, you stop asking questions about it. You stop second-guessing it. You operate from a place of settled confidence, not anxious uncertainty. The promise is not that the road will always be smooth. The promise is that the destination is guaranteed if you do not quit.

Persistence Through Persuasion

Here is where things get deeply practical. In Hebrews 6, beginning in verse nine, the writer expresses being "convinced of better things" for the people he is addressing. That phrase, "convinced of better things," is worth turning over in your mind slowly.

What are you convinced of?

Whatever you are fully persuaded about will fuel your endurance. If you are convinced that your situation will never change, your effort will reflect that. If you are convinced that your marriage has run its course, your investment will dwindle. If you are convinced that God's promises are for other people but not for you, you will stop pressing forward to receive them.

But here is the flip side. When you become fully persuaded that the promises of God are yours, something shifts. Hebrews 6 goes on to say that God is not unjust, that he has not forgotten your work or the love you have shown. And the goal, as verse 12 describes, is that you would not become sluggish but would imitate those who through faith and endurance inherited the promises.

The promises are inherited. They are not stumbled upon. They are not handed to the passive. They are received by those who remain convinced and keep moving.

This is also where the accompanying benefits of faith come into focus. Salvation is not simply a transaction that secures your eternity. It comes with things. Peace that surpasses understanding. Strength for seasons that should have broken you. Access to a Father whose resources are described in Ephesians 3 as "unfathomable riches." That is not a word chosen carelessly. It means you cannot get to the bottom of it. You cannot exhaust it. You cannot out-dream it.

Spend Time Dreaming

Which brings us to one of the most underrated spiritual disciplines available to a believer: dreaming.

Ephesians 3 builds toward one of the most breathtaking statements in all of scripture. In verse 20, Paul describes God as one who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us. Read that again. Beyond all that we ask or think.

That means your ceiling is not the ceiling. Your biggest dream is not the limit. Whatever you can imagine, God's capacity exceeds it abundantly.

So why do so many people never press into that reality? Often because they have never taken the time to genuinely imagine what could be. They are so consumed by what is in front of them, the bills, the diagnosis, the broken relationship, the stalled career, that they never lift their eyes long enough to see what is possible.

Dreaming is not irresponsibility dressed up in spiritual language. It is an act of faith. It is agreeing with God that his plans for your life are good, that his resources are real, and that what he has promised is actually coming. It is practicing the posture of someone who expects to receive.

And according to Ephesians 3, this is not just for you. The glory that comes from a life fully surrendered to God extends to all generations, forever and ever. The courage you demonstrate in the middle of your deep water does not just benefit you. It creates a legacy. It builds something that outlasts you.

Christ Is Not Pulling From Lack

Perhaps the most freeing truth woven through all of this is the simplest one. Christ is not working with limited resources on your behalf. The surplus of his glory is available to strengthen you in the deepest water you will ever face.

When you find the beauty in the middle of what you are going through, you discover that the path forward is not as far as you feared. The treasure is real. It is not buried forever. It will surface.

Stay in the deep. Keep swimming. The promise is worth it.
