The Tension at The Cross
This Resurrection Sunday message challenges us to move beyond simply celebrating that Jesus rose from the dead and asks a deeper question: what does His resurrection mean for our ability to get up from our own struggles? The central focus is on Luke 23:33-43, particularly the story of the two criminals crucified alongside Jesus. We're reminded that even in our darkest moments, hanging on our own crosses of consequence, we still have time to make one more good decision. The criminal on the right made a choice that changed his eternal destiny with just a simple prayer: 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.' This powerful truth confronts us with the reality that no matter where we've landed in life, no matter what we've done or what's been done to us, we still have the power to choose. The message addresses the tension we all live in—the pulling and straining of life that threatens to tear us apart—and offers hope that when we stop pulling against God's plan and surrender to His direction, we find the freedom and strength to rise again. The resurrection isn't just about what happened 2,000 years ago; it's about the power available to us today to get up from whatever has us down.
