Riding the Wave

Sep 13, 2026  •  Pastor Jerome White

Life has a way of pulling us into deep waters whether we are ready or not. Sometimes we wade in willingly, and other times we look around and wonder how we drifted so far from the shore. This message walks us through what it truly means to ride the wave rather than be overwhelmed by it. Drawing from Matthew 11:28-30, where Jesus extends an invitation to the weary and burdened, we are reminded that the rest he offers is not simply physical relief but something far deeper. It is rest for the soul. That distinction matters more than we often realize. We can sleep for hours, take every vacation, and check every self-care box and still wake up feeling hollow. That is because the soul has its own needs, and when we neglect them, no amount of physical rest can fill the gap. The message challenges us to be intentional about nurturing our inner lives, especially during calm seasons, because those quiet stretches are not meant for coasting. They are meant for preparing. The surfer does not learn to ride massive waves by waiting until the storm arrives. Neither do we grow in faith by reaching for scripture only when crisis hits. The calm season is a gift, and what we do with it determines how we handle what comes next.
